Tile Flooring2 - ©Darryl BrooksFloor tiles are one of the top flooring options for homeowners in the Buckhead, Atlanta, Midtown areas. Any real estate agent will tell you that floor tiles will increase the value of your home. What type of floor tile is right for you? Here are a few of the most popular.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile has been around forever. Okay, maybe not technically forever, but decorative ceramic tile dates back to 4000 B.C. Egypt. Over six millennia later, it’s still widely used. The benefits of ceramic tile are its inexpensive price and variety of colors and patterns. However, ceramic tile can be more prone to chipping and cracking than other tile types.

Porcelain Tile

Porcelain tile is actually a sub-classification of ceramic tile, but is much more durable. It’s very dense, with a water absorption rate of less than 0.5 percent. This makes it better protected from liquid damage than non-porcelain ceramic tile.  Porcelain tiles are a great option for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, laundry rooms, and even outdoor patios as they are frost resistant.   The downside? Porcelain tile is more expensive and can be more difficult to install.

Stone Tile

Stone tiles can be beautiful, but also come with a high price tag. Popular types include granite, marble, limestone, and travertine. Granite is very sturdy and can resist scratching if polished. Marble is beautiful but easily scratched.   Travertine and limestone are also eye-catching and unique options that are not as durable as granite.  Travertine and limestone are also used as countertop surfaces.

Slate Tile

Slate is actually a metamorphic rock whose incredibly dense structure makes for a great kitchen tile.   Slate is resistant to heavy wear and tear. Ideally, your home might have a bit of rustic feel with slate, as it is only available in dark, earthy tones, like green, gray, rust, and charcoal.

These are just some of the popular tile flooring types we offer. Please reach out to us at Floor Coverings International Intown Atlanta for any additional questions about floor tiles. We proudly serve the Buckhead, Atlanta, Midtown areas.
