Spring is a great time to do a thorough cleaning of your home. Floor Coverings International Intown Atlanta has created this post to help you spring clean your laminate flooring, eliminate stains, and make it look like new again. Follow along as we cover some of the best laminate cleaning tips!
Laminate floors follow the same general cleanliness guidelines that most flooring requires; clean up messes as they occur and regularly vacuum to keep dirt and debris from accumulating. To prevent spills or stains from happening, consider placing area rugs below dining tables and mats underneath pet feeders. Leaving your shoes at the door will also help to prevent superficial scratches and deeper dents from occurring.
Less is More
When it comes to cleaning your laminate floors with water, less is definitely more. This material doesn’t stand up well to excessive moisture as it can soak down into the boards and cause them to warp. Therefore, mopping and other water-heavy cleaning methods are not recommended for this type of flooring. Instead, use a dry mop and vacuum to eliminate dirt and debris, and use a small amount of water and soap to deal with other messes.
If your laminate flooring becomes stained, baking soda will be your best bet to get rid of any discoloration. Mix together a little dish soap and baking soda until you have a paste, apply to the floor and let it sit for a few minutes. Afterwards wipe up the paste with a slightly damp washcloth and then dry thoroughly. Always make sure to use a gentle cloth, and avoid using anything that could scratch the laminate surface.
